Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing computer systems.

+ TheJRSS Systems Engineerwill provide the highest level of expertise in the secure operation of the NIPRNet and SIPRNet enterprise network and infrastructure focusing on JRSS migration activities.

+ Provides overall direction and guidance to assigned project managers

+ Resolve network challenges of unusual complexity and difficulty either directly or through collaboration with vendors and other government partners.

+ Maintain access control lists (ACL). Make all ACL modifications to the network devices with no disruption in service.

+ Maintain accurate and standardized network site diagrams that include all managed devices, active network interfaces, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, subnet masks, attached circuits with purchased bandwidth rates, Command Communications Service Designators (CCSDs), and routing information.

+ Ensure that all devices managed are working correctly using government-provided network management tools such as Spectrum, BMC Network Automation (BNA), NetScout, eHealth, DIRECTRON, Access Control Servers (ACS), and new tools as fielded.

+ Provide support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to troubleshoot outages and other network issues.

+ Create, add, delete, audit, and update Deny All/Permit by Exception (DAPE) security policies, including Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Guide (STIG) compliance.

+ Maintain accurate and complete ports, protocols, and services (PPS) for managed sites. Review PPS requests for accuracy and security concerns.

+ Operate, monitor, sustain, and secure such devices as routers, switches, firewalls, OOB management routers, virtual private network (VPN) concentrators, and access control servers.

+ Respond to engineering changes and modify network architectures accordingly.

+ Provide a weekly trend report to depict trends of network outages and degradations, and generate other trend reports as tasked by the COR.


Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.


Certifications: IAT II (e.g. CCNA Security, Security+ CE); CSSP-IS (e.g. CEH, SCCP); Computing Environment certifications


+ 8-10 years of related systems engineering experience.

+ Under general direction, responsible for the completion of assigned complex or long-term engineering projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.

+ High level individual contributor, leading a group of engineers, analysts, technicians, and/or one or more project engineers assigned for the duration of a project.

+ Experience in managing IT or IA related projects that required extensive and simultaneous documentation and coordination.

+ Knowledge of information technology concepts used in the evaluation of security performance and integrity of state-of-the-art applications; communications systems; hardware; software; satellite control systems; and information processing systems;

+ Ability to solve complex problems utilizing creative thinking skills.

+ Ability to critically analyze and understand the systems and communicate system requirements to the customer and leadership.

+ Ability to provide on-call support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

+ Ability to travel as required.
