Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. This position is for a Principal Engineer Propulsion for the Analysis Group in our Propulsion Engineering team within the Launch Vehicle Division at our Chandler, AZ facility. This position is to support the OmegA Program.

Job Summary:

Perform analysis, design, and test of one or more moderately complex ordnance, pneumatic and/or propulsion components and systems. Analyze requirements for materials, structural components, or functional systems. Select applicable analytical data from previous products, determine the technical principles involved, mathematically define the problem and compute the engineering characteristics consistent with the specifications, design needs, and requirements of other portions of the product. Develop original ideas and elaborate on preliminary design concepts, evaluate completed design with other technical groups, and make modification necessary to achieve the most ideal design. Develop and coordinate the conduct of test programs required to evaluate design work.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Perform complex engineering design, development, analysis, and test activities of components and propulsion systems.

2. Conduct heat transfer and fluid flow analysis of both components and systems.

3. Conduct explosive ordnance modeling.

4. Conduct trade studies and evaluate alternative designs.

5. Based on broadly defined problems, study basic design concepts and criteria for complex materials, components, or functional systems and applies the engineering principles involved to develop new designs.

6. Anticipates customer needs and finds innovative ways to provide for those needs.

7. Originate and develop constructive ideas. Consistently look for ways to modify or change existing methods or processes to improve outcomes.

8. Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution; Analyze project requirements and develop detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis.

9. Interact with internal and external customers; Assist the customer in defining system requirements and in the generation of specifications for products or sub systems.

10. Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering team in the design, test, production and maintenance phases of a project.

11. Develop and present materials for project related briefings including design reviews to be given to internal and external customers.

12. Support new business and prepare proposal material.

Basic Qualifications:

Requires BS in Engineering & 5 years or Masters in Engineering & 3 years or PhD & 0 years.

Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree preferred

Experience Required :

Demonstrated experience performing heat transfer and fluid flow analysis as well as explosive ordnance modeling is strongly desired

Candidate must have a minimum of five years of related experience

Or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Ability to travel 10%

U.S. Citizenship is required
