Job Description

Summary

This is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) for Nurse (Float Pool) for the Nursing Services department at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ and will report to the Supervisory Nurse onsite. Nurse (Float Pool) will assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and nursing care to assess acute and chronic conditions, recognize, identify and interpret serious situations, administer therapeutic measures.

Responsibilities

-Performs professional nursing care responsible in the following areas Outpatient Clinic, Surgical department, Adult Care Unit Pediatric, Intensive Care Unit, Procedure Room, Obstetrical unit, Emergency department and/or Oncology Program.

-Assess acute and chronic conditions including physical, psychosocial, home health, and education needs as it pertains to patients.

-Observe and assess patient conditions, recognize, identify and interpret serious situations.

-Administer therapeutic measures such as medications, intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, nasogastric tubes, oncology medications, central lines, ventilators, fetal monitors, arterial lines, etc.

-Operates and monitors specialized equipment.

Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required. Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service. Alternative Work Schedule: May be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays to provide continuity of patient care. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Education A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Per The Indian Health Manual, Chapter 1, Chapter 3 – Verification: Members of the medical staff and others who must apply for clinical privileges must hold an active and unrestricted State license, certification, or registration, as applicable, to practice in their professional field. The term unrestricted means that there are no restrictions, special considerations, periods of monitoring, or probationary requirements associated with license, certification, or registration that restricts or inhibits the ability of the practitioner to practice his/her profession in the specialty or clinical area for which the practitioner is being hired. This includes any stipulations that may have a potentially significant adverse impact on patients, the medical staff, or the efficiency of the facility. In general, providers with any restrictions on any State license, certification, or registration will not be granted medical staff membership or clinical privileges. Experience The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Specialized experience ranging from simple to complex in nature, under controlled and stressful situations.
