Job Description

WestLand Resources Inc. is seeking Biological Monitoring Assistants to monitor for biological resources (Sonoran desert tortoise and Pima pineapple cactus) during construction activities. This is a temporary position, located in Tucson, AZ.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field preferred. Biological experience can substitute for degree. Experience working with biological resources strongly preferred. Able to take clear and accurate notes. Able to work under harsh environmental conditions.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme weather conditions, rough terrain, rough vehicle transportation (to include bumps and vibrations), and loud noise from industrial equipment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

regularly talk and hear stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, or crawl stand, sit, walk, and hike on rough terrain lift and/or move items up to 60 pounds specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Job duties:

Conduct survey of open pits and trenches for desert tortoises prior to drilling activity each day. Inspect for tortoises under vehicles and equipment prior to moving. Inspect area to be disturbed each day for Pima pineapple cactus. Work closely with field supervisor regarding decisions to relocate relevant species. Maintain daily log. Record all encounters with relevant experience clearly and legibly.
