The On-Site Network Planning Engineer will be focused on creating, updating, and maintaining Army installation network models for both the non-secure and secure Army networks. These previously generated models were created using the Riverbed suite of SteelCentral tools (formally known as OPNET Network Planner). These tools include NetCollector (VNE Server), NetPlanner (SP Guru), and NetAuditor. In addition, the on-site Network Planning Engineer will provide direct support to end users of the Modeling and Simulation data to help the Army better utilize their networks, capacity planning, and pre-configuration analysis network of proposed network changes. Models will have to continuously be debug and validate regularly to ensure that a reliable model is 100% available. Additionally, the Engineer will prepare model documentation, and lead or participate in technical meetings both at SMS and client sites to present your models and simulation results. The Engineer will work independently on client engagements with minimal direct supervision and may be required to oversee the work of others
Essential Job Functions:
+ Experience with process modeling in Riverbed/OPNET SteelCentral tools to include NetCollector, NetPlanner, NetAuditor, NetDoctor
+ Thorough knowledge of network engineering, Army networks (NIPR & SIPR), and understanding of routing and switching equipment configuration, and network performance tuning
+ Broad-based communications network background in technologies (including Wireless, ATM, IP, MPLS, Frame Relay, etc.), services, and hardware
+ Strong technical and oral/written communication skills are important as the individual will produce functional specifications, interact with vendors and interface with clients
+ Work with the client to integrate the project scope with the client’s mission objectives, current technical infrastructure and state of the art technologies into enterprise-wide solutions.
+ Possess effective and accurate presentation and communication skills to include briefings to Government clients, SMS staff, contractors, and third party Stakeholders
+ Apply prior experience in network systems and/or business operations
+ Ability to develop deliverables, presentations, project plans and spreadsheets. Individual must have an excellent knowledge of the MS Office suite and be able to work quickly and effectively in all of the above referenced applications.
3-5 years of experience with implementing developing and running scenarios with the Riverbed/OPNET Modeler and its associated components.
Must have DoD Secret clearance or higher
Applicant must possess refined critical thinking skills, should be a self-starter, may direct the activities of other team members, diplomatic, multi-task capable, adaptive to a dynamic environment, dependable and reliable. Prior experience in a government consulting services environment is required.
Travel may be required.
Bachelor’s degree in an electrical engineering, computer science or related field. Advanced degree is preferred.
Industry recognized Network Engineering certifications are preferred.
SEC+ CE, RCPE Associate or Profession in Network & Infrastructure Visibility, Flow Visibility & Analysis, or Packet Visibility & Analysis.
Required / Preferred Certifications: SEC+ CE, Riverbed Certified Performance Engineering (RCPE) Associate or Professional (in Network & Infrastructure, or Flow & Analysis)
