Description

Diploma – Patient Care Technician 27.5 Credits – 646 Contact Hours –34 Weeks The Patient Care Technician program
provides training for entry level positions in the role of a patient
care technician in a clinic, hospital, urgent care facility,
rehabilitation facility, or other health care environments. Modules
contain lessons that will provide the students with the knowledge
involving the core concepts of the health care delivery system and
health occupations. It will discuss various aspects of communication,
legal and ethical responsibilities, as well as safety security
procedures. Students will describe wellness and diseases, quality
assurance, aseptic techniques, Basic First Aid and CPR. Students will
have the concepts of medical terminology, including prefixes, suffices,
and word roots, as well as, abbreviations and symbols. Students will
learn anatomy and physiology of the body systems, including vocabulary,
pathology, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Students will be
provided with an overall understanding of the theory and hands-on skills
involved in providing physical therapy and occupational therapy
assistance; didactic theory and hands-on skills involved in the practice
of phlebotomy, electrocardiography and respiratory therapy and providing
patient care as would be required by a patient care technician. Students
will cover common disorders associated with relevant body systems, more
advanced patient care skills and providing home health care. After
successful completion of all classroom coursework, the student is
scheduled to complete 160 clock hours of Clinical Practicum/ Externship
which will give the student on the job training to enhance their

parent or legal guardian or demonstrate that they are otherwise covered
under state emancipation statutes. 3.Other: students are required to
demonstrate completion of immunizations paid by the College. Refer to
