Description:


This course will provide the student with an overview of the emerging career of the patient care technician. Topics covered include, but are not limited to:



  • Introduction to healthcare, including the role of the PCT and communication.

  • The patient, including body structure, function, growth and development.

  • Safety in healthcare, including asepsis, infection control, and emergency care.

  • Patient assessment, including physical examinations.

  • Obtaining and Monitoring an Electrocardiogram.

  • Patient care and comfort, nutrition, and oxygen needs.

  • Blood and specimen collection and testing.

  • Surgery and immobility, to include wound care.

  • Special care concerns and settings, including pediatrics and mental health needs.


Competencies to be achieved:


The Patient Care Technician (PCT) program at Arizona Technical Training Institute prepares the participant to work in a healthcare environment under the direct supervision of a nurse or a physician. The program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain a career in the healthcare field, providing direct patient care as a patient care technician. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion and will meet eligibility to test for a national certification as a patient care technician.

Tuition charges/refunds:



  • Before the beginning of classes: the
    student is entitled to a refund of 100% of the tuition, minus the registration
    fee of $50.00.

  • After the commencement of classes:
    the tuition refund, minus the registration fee of $50.00 will be determined as
    follows.

  • Books and supplies: There is no
    refund for equipment, books and supplies received by the student

  • Special Cases: In case of illness,
    accident, death in the family or a special circumstance that presents students
    from attending AZTTI towards completing the program, AZTTI will make
    accommodations that is reasonable to each situation
