What You’ll Do Here: As a Senior CloudOps Engineer your role is hands on, building solutions and working with operations and software engineers to implement for their applications. You will be also solicit feedback, and listen to your users and peers. + Create competitive advantage for Cengage with AWS Cloud infrastructure processes and tools supporting agile application development teams leading to continuous improvements in provisioning, monitoring, response, and management. + Be responsible for a portfolio of projects and services for AWS CloudOps excellence for complex application integration and troubleshooting in the infrastructure. + Own and manage dependencies of services, platforms, and other applications within the Cengage infrastructure. + Connect business, security/compliance and standard methodology requirements to CloudOps processes, methods, and tools. + Collaborate with multi-functional roles to communicate and align development efforts with Operations Roadmap. Responsibilities + Maintain a deep knowledge of Cengage business and systems processes, and interdependencies for contextual awareness in defining solutions and solving problems. + Develop solutions, define projects, and provide consultative assistance to CloudOps and application engineering resources in implementing AWS solutions, along with automation and monitoring tools, for continuous improvement of application infrastructure, provisioning, and monitoring. + Design and develop standard methodologies for Cloud Operations Team and TechOps organization and assist them in engaging these processes. + Define and implement solutions in Terraform for a broad range of AWS cloud services features such as elastic capacity, auto-scaling, disaster recovery strategies, tiered storage, serverless, EKS, IAM, SSO, and other solutions. + Management and continuous improvement in use of infrastructure monitor tools and processes, including Splunk, DynaTrace, LogicMonitor, AppNeta, and OpsGenie. + Thought leadership in development and implementation of standard methodologies and initiatives at all levels of cloud infrastructure. + Act as third/fourth level engineering support for incidents, understanding technical interdependencies for end-to-end problem solving, engaging a third-party support organization, as well as application teams and our cloud services provider for troubleshooting and problem solving. + Ensure maximum uptime of cloud hosted environments, including production, staging, testing, content authoring, and development environments. Competencies + Five to six years validated experience in cloud technology infrastructure environments. + Technical command of Amazon Web Services hosting services and IAC deployment tools, methods, and processes, and management of AWS services at scale. + Technical leadership command of monitoring and response tools – Dynatrace, Splunk, and OpsGenie. + Experience with DevOps practices. + Expertise in deploying and supporting AWS infrastructure in Terraform. + Proficiency administering Linux OS, Apache & Tomcat web application environments. + Expertise in Terraform, and Ansible required, Python and Bash are valued. + Experience designing, building, maintaining, migrating, tuning, administering, supporting, problem solving in sophisticated hosting environments, working collaboratively with applications, network, and systems teams to resolve problems. + Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and be able to translate business requirements into technology solutions. + Excellent ability to define and ‘sell’ a solution in both technical and business/financial aspects across all areas of the business. + Experience with project management principles and practices for oversight of matrix teams in building and implementing solutions. + A well-organized, productive teammate with ability to prioritize daily work, change directions quickly, work with geographically dispersed cross-functional matrix teams and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
