Job Summary:

This great opportunity within the Accounting field is responsible for the financial management of the project life-cycle, approves and reviews the initial establishment and modification of projects in various systems; reviews and approves the cost structure, funding streams and budgets in Arizona Financial System, and will process various financial documents. The Accountant 3 prepares, reviews and submits weekly billing to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), ensures accurate and timely federal billing as well as reviews the accuracy of expenditures of nonfederal fund sources, and other duties as assigned. Research and resolve discrepancies on financial and technical issues. Provides guidance and coordinates with Project Managers and other internal and external customers regarding the financial aspect of projects. May perform cost accounting functions for Federal Transit Authority (FTA) Transit Grants and Projects related to the Aeronautics Capital Improvement Program. This position will assist the Project Accounting Manager in training staff, providing solutions, making recommendations for improvement on issues, assist with the development of policies and procedures for the Project Accounting area and in the streamlining processes or procedures related to the project lifecycle when applicable.

Please Note: This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

  • Process, review and/or approve various financial documents in the current financial system used by the State of Arizona.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies on financial and technical issues. Facilitate smooth interactions and identify actions to address issues, resolving questions and problems while involving appropriate ADOT groups and functions, including billing issues with federal stakeholders.
  • Setup, review and approve cost structure, funding streams and budgets including the review of all relevant documents to ensure accuracy and compliance. Support in training staff, providing solutions and making recommendations for improvement on issues.
  • Monitors, tracks and corrects various transaction which include but not limited to ICAP, payroll and overflow.
  • Prepares, reviews and submits weekly billing to the federal agencies, ensures accurate and timely federal billing as well as reviews the accuracy of expenditures of non-federal fund sources.
  • Will conduct financial research in response to federal and state audits and will perform project reconciliations.
  • Cost accounting functions for Federal Transit Authority (FTA) Transit Grants and the Aeronautics Capital Improvement Program.
  • Establishment and Modification of Projects in various systems.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
