Job Description
Summary of Function:
Grant Funded. The Accountant is responsible for applying accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements, as well as ensure appropriate accounting controls. The Accountant is responsible for a wide range of tasks relating to financial planning, management, and control. This position provides internal accounting support to the college by evaluating, recommending, and implementing effective accounting practices and procedures. The Accountant must possess broad knowledge of fiscal responsibilities for College programs and resources, as well as a thorough understanding of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and procedures, as well as applicable state and federal guidelines and regulations.
Typical Duties:
- Serves Students. Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities. Perform regular daily reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including accounts receivable, sponsored billing receivables, and various revenue accounts.
- Assists Accounts Receivable Supervisor with monthly, quarterly, and annual reports including Audit deliverables, Transaction Privilege Tax, and Use Tax.
- Confirm accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses.
- Provide accounting information to internal and external constituencies that require the use of judgment and interpretation of policies, rules, and/or procedures.
- Perform ad hoc data compilation and analysis as needed.
- Prepares and maintains audit schedules as directed.
- Comply with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
- Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
- Serve as backup in the absence of the Accounts Receivable Specialist.
- Stay current with TPT and Use Tax changes and updates. Update procedures and reporting documents as necessary. Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
