Job Description
This job order is for 44-2091 Agricultural Equipment Operators: Drive and control equipment to support agricultural activities such as tilling soil; planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops.
Workers will use mechanized and power-driven equipment such as tractors, planters, sprayers, cultivator, and other equipment to plant, cultivate, harvest, and irrigate crops. Workers will be expected to be able to operate agricultural equipment with or without direct. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions, communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex, or non-routine activities will be supervised. Field workers will be expected to perform their general duties in a timely and proficient manner. Workers must obey all safety rules and basic instructions and be able to recognize, understand, and comply with safety, pesticide warning/re-entry and other essential postings. Works with a clean driving record (no major moving violations such as but no limited to Driving while intoxicated or reckless driving) and able to obtain an insurable driver’s license may be required to drive company vehicles. Workers with proper licenses will use company vehicles to transport employers’ crops, tools and fellow workers.
Workers will install and maintain irrigation systems and water lines. Move and install irrigation pipes and equipment, remove drip tubing or install drip tubing, dig and maintain ditches. Additional duties: Workers may be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of herbs and vegetables. Workers may be required to manually plant, cultivate and harvest vegetables such as: Green/Red Romaine, Green/Red Oak, Green/Red Leaf, Mizuna, Arugula, Green/Red Chard, Tatsoi, Spinach, Kale as well as other types of vegetables, lettuce crops, Culinary Herbs, Microgreens and other field crops. Workers will be required to use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears and knives. Duties may include tilling soil and applying fertilizers, transplanting, weeding, thinning, or pruning crops, applying pesticides, or cleaning, grading, sorting, packing and loading harvested products. Drivers may be required to assist with farm building and field maintenance, repair fences, and / or repair or cover hoop houses. Workers may be asked to perform irrigation activities such as placing irrigation pipes and fittings. There is a considerable amount of stooping and kneeling throughout the various tasks being performed. Care must be taken to prevent damaging produce and plants. Workers will be required to dig and prepare ground, till soil and prepare field or planting, plant pots in fields, remove broken or damaged poles and install new poles (hoop houses), manually remove weeds by hand or with digging tools. Workers may be asked to spread plastic or cover crops with netting materials or plastic and remove them when no longer needed by hand or machine. Workers may be asked to pack crops in totes, bins, clamshells, tie or bundle items, weigh product and load product by hand. Workers may be asked to install and maintain irrigation systems and water lines. Move and install irrigation pipes and equipment, and remove drip tubing or install drip tubing, dig, and maintain ditches. When work is performed in the field workers must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required. Must report for work daily wearing work clothing and boots or another durable footwear. Workers wearing clothing inappropriate for work will not be permitted to start work.
In addition, workers will be required to perform variable tasks such as the following: ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other tasks related to general farming. Workers will also engage in maintaining the equipment, restrooms, and fields in sanitary condition by sanitizing equipment, restrooms, lunch tables, picking up packing material, boxes, labels, trash, and discard of any other unwanted items.
3 months experience operating Farm equipment. Workers should also have experience working in herbs and leafy greens.
Work will also include mechanized fieldwork using power equipment. By way of example and not limitation power equipment may
include tractors, planters, sprayers, cultivators, and other equipment. Workers will be expected to be able to operate agricultural
equipment with or without direction. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to
supervisors. Unusual, complex, or non-routine activities will be supervised. Field workers will be expected to perform their general
duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision. Workers must obey all safety rules and basic instructions and be
able to recognize, understand and comply with safety, pesticide warning / re-entry and other essential postings.
Anticipated Hours of Work: Worker will report to work at the designated time and place as directed by the Grower each day. The standard workweek is 8.5 hours per day Monday-Saturday is normal; however, workers may be requested to work 12+ hours per day depending upon the conditions in the fields and maturity of the crops but will not be required to do so. Also, the workers may be requested to work on federal holidays and on their Sabbath but will not be required to do so. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available. Down Time: Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer’s control. These periods can occur anytime throughout the season. Starting and ending times may vary according to weather and crop conditions. When this occurs, the employer will give workers advance notice as possible. Starting and ending times will change due to weather and crop conditions. During certain times of the season workers are required to work at night. Workers will be given as much notice as possible when changing shifts are required. Also, the workers may be requested to work on federal holidays and on their Sabbath but will not be required to do so. Workers may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available. If a worker is offered and agrees to work more than the scheduled hours during the workweek, they must still report to work on their other scheduled days, unless arrangements are approved in advance with the owner or supervisor. Choosing to work longer hours during the week does not exclude you from working each scheduled work day. Not reporting for work on your scheduled work day will be counted as an unexcused absence.
All Workers must be at least 18 years of age. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order.
Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time. Workers are subject to random drug testing post hire at no cost to the employee post hire. Failing or refusing a drug test will result in immediate termination.
