Job Description

NATURE OF WORK:  Under general supervision of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Care Team and Outreach Manager, implements interventions to maximize student success by promoting access and equity for all students. The school counselor will be available for students to address any issues that may affect students’ academic performance which include psychosocial and behavioral challenges.   Performs related work as assigned.

TYPICAL DUTIES: (Illustrative Only) Supports the Cochise County Schools Superintendent’s Office by providing counseling for individuals on an individual basis to remediate behavioral, academic, and personal concerns. Maintain confidentiality and records to keep track of student’s progress. Implement the adopted curriculum. Provide classroom and small group development activities such as self-esteem, problem-solving, coping skills, bullying, etc. Provide, plan, and conduct professional development, trainings and/or workshops for students, staff, educators, and parents. Responds to school crisis by offering support and counseling. Communicates with school staff and behavioral health paraprofessionals to provide the best care. Refers students to outside agencies for additional counseling or treatment when necessary. Perform all duties in accordance with Federal, State laws, district, county, and school boards policies and procedures, including mandatory reporting procedures.
