Hiring Range: $23.61 - $28.33 Per Hour

  • Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.

 

Pima County Parks & Recreation Department has an opening for a Parks Specialist II to be a part of a team of park maintenance professionals keeping Pima County Parks clean and safe. The selected candidate will be a part of a team performing journey-level new construction, maintenance and repair of park facilities relying on high level trade skills. Duties may include earthwork/heavy equipment operation, welding, irrigation, masonry, carpentry, fencing, painting, and/or new construction.

 

The selected candidate must have or obtain within 6-months from the date of hire an AZ MVD - Commercial Driver's License (CDL).  

 

Essential Functions:

  • Leads and oversees the daily maintenance activities of three or more Park Technician I or II or Park Helper employees, which

  • includes: assigning work tasks and ensuring maintenance activities are completed as delegated;

  • Performs quality control analysis on equipment, supported systems, turf management, ball field preparation, and all other park assets included in assigned property;

  • Performs journey-level tasks of the parks and recreation specialization;

  • Conducts on-the-job training for assigned staff and performs all essential functions of Park Technician I or II or Park Helper;

  • Maintains comprehensive activity, operations, service and usage records on supported vehicles, equipment and systems;

  • Prepares oral and written activity reports;

  • Identifies common and abnormal conditions and diseases of turf grasses, trees, ornamental shrubs and directs remedial actions;

  • Monitors contracted employee performance;

  • Performs skilled maintenance in environmentally-sensitive locations, historic restorations, fencing, equestrian complexes, camping facilities, ponds, trails, adobe buildings, habitat restorations, erosion prevention and control of invasive species.


Minimum Qualifications:

Completions of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in a Parks & Recreation specialization appropriate to assigned duties AND one year of journey-level experience in the same trade, craft or operations area of required expertise.


(Relevant five years of journey-level experience in the trade, craft or operational area of required expertise may substitute for completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.)

OR:

One (1) year experience with Pima County as a Parks Specialist I.

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

 

  • Minimum two (2) years of journey-level experience in the loading, securing, transport, and field use of heavy equipment to excavate, trench, and grade.

  • Minimum two (2) years of journey-level experience in the installation of commercial type fencing (including chain link, field, wildlife and bollards).

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in large tree pruning and complete removal.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience with basic welding.

  • Experience in the construction areas of grading, forming, pouring, and finishing concrete.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience supervising one or more staff members.

  • Experience with/knowledge of computers - utilizing e-mail, Excel spreadsheets, work order documents, and reports as needed.

 

Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
