Job Description
Summary
Under general supervision, performs administrative work of routine difficulty to assist with minority voter information and programs; performs related work as assigned.
Essential Job Functions

- Assists with and implements minority language information programs and registration.
- Assists with recruitment and training of poll workers and deputy registrars.
- Arrange facilities for elections.
- Assists Election Director in the administration and supervision of all elections.
- Travels to poll sites to assist with voting process; must be available to work irregular hours, weekends, holidays and evenings during election cycles.
- Coordinates outreach efforts with minority community groups, leaders and others.
- Educates citizens of the County regarding the election process.
- Provides information regarding voting in the Navajo, Hopi or Apache language.
- Troubleshoots and remove barriers to voting for Native Americans.
- Translates written election materials.
- Performs duties to ensure compliance with Sections 2 and 4 of the Voting Rights Act.
- Attend community meetings and makes public presentations.
- Produces election public service announcements for the media.
- Produces reports on voter outreach activities and results.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing elections and retentions and disposition of election records and materials. Knowledge of voter registration procedures.
- Knowledge of Navajo, Hopi or Apache cultures.
- Knowledge of County government procedures and policies.
- Knowledge of methods and practices of public and media relations
- Skill in writing, speaking and translating Navajo, Hopi or Apache languages.
- Skill in using office equipment including computers.
- Skill in effectively communicating verbally and in writing.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
Desirable Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D. AND three years’ experience in clerical work; prior work experience in a government setting preferred; elections position requires a valid driver’s license and Elections Officer Certification
