Job Description

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Executive Director

Position Summary The Diagnostic Imaging Manager is a working-manager position responsible for supervising the provision of

quality care provided by the diagnostic imaging staff and all aspects of day-to-day operations of the

department in addition to the day-to-day responsibilities of one or more department modalities. Through collaboration with all members of the health-care team, strives to create a positive patient-centered culture;

and a culture where the staff is encouraged to grow in knowledge and skills to further the quality care provided at WMRMC. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Diagnostic Imaging Manager acts as a

liaison between department staff and administration advocating for both patient and staff needs. The position

exercises considerable judgment in applying professional knowledge in solving problems within established policies and practices, requires strong communication skills to interact with patients, and other health team

members while maintaining all standards of care. This position is safety sensitive and subject to WMRMC’s Drug & Alcohol Policy.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

1. Direct and coordinate the service of radiology and diagnostic imaging procedures and complete

regular quality checks on equipment to ensure proper function.

2. Provide a safe environment by monitoring radioactive exposure to staff and patients and complete necessary reporting as required by state and federal agencies.

3. Ensure adherence to Arizona Radiation Regulatory Agency (ARRA) and federal guidelines for radiation rules and regulations with the help of the physicist.

4. Comply with the policies and procedures, ethical standards and code of conduct set forth by facility. 5. Organize, supervise and monitor the provision of the specialized clinical services, practices and

procedures for the Radiology Department. Ensure all applicable guidelines for accreditation, quality

assurance and safe patient care are met. 6. Ensure the standard of patient care is being met through the judicial review of occurrence reports in

the WMRMC quality program and participates in quality improvement through setting impactful quality measures.

7. Maintain a high degree of patient satisfaction. Assure customer/patient service needs are met.

Monitor patient service feedback and contributes to the process of resolving complaints and service issues.

8. Participate in annual department budget creation; monitor and control expenditures to ensure the accomplishment of objectives within the approved budget; and manage budget through the year to

reduce waste in time, resources, and processes. 9. Negotiate, administer and monitor contracts with outside vendors, consultants for services and

equipment within the department.

10. Participate in the development and implementation of department goals, objectives, policies and guidelines and manage yearly departmental goals to maintain focus, build teamwork and ensure

outcomes. 11. Maintain a positive working relationship with medical staff, nursing staff, and clinical staff.

Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with patients, families,

visitors and other employees. 12. Act as liaison between staff and administration. Advocate for staff; make recommendations based on

staff input to CNO and administration.

13. Identify areas of improvement for day to day operations, and collect input from employees to implement more efficient methods.

14. Identify, develop and manage specific processes that develop staff morale, recognition and growth. 15. Conduct regular communication with staff regarding departmental changes, needs and requirements.

Maintain open door policy.

16. Accomplish department and human resources objectives by selecting, orientating, training, coaching, and addressing personnel issues; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and

procedures to promote a productive and supportive work environment. 17. Approve all payroll documentation including those dealing with sick leave, vacation, overtime, on-call

pay and related matters. 18. Assure employee competencies and long-term development through regular performance evaluations

and promote professional development within the delivery of care.

19. Organize available staff in such a way as to maximize quality patient care. Develop work schedules, on call assignments, and other methods of assuring adequate staff coverage; manage the scheduling

of patients. 20. Identify department specific education needs and opportunities, and communicate with Education

Program Manager to facilitate and meet these needs.

21. Attend management and clinical meetings on a regular basis. 22. Oversee ordering and supplies.

23. Participate and assist with Hospital-Wide Disaster/Emergency Preparedness. Understands role and appropriately responds in internal and external disasters and disaster drills.

24. Perform job as working manager while fulfilling responsibilities supporting one or more modalities on a consistent schedule.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has overall supervisory responsibility for CT/X-Ray Technologist, Ultrasound Technologist, MRI

and Nuclear Med Technologist as directed by the Executive Director.

Work Environment

This job operates in a healthcare setting open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This role routinely comes in

contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. Incumbent will be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patient and specimens in working environment. Incumbent may be required to work extended

periods of time at a video display terminal (VDT). Incumbent is subject to noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above imaging devises.

• This position is active and requires intermittent physical activity including walking, pushing, pulling,

hospital/office setting. Ability to speak clearly and with the volume required to carry on a conversation in person and over the phone.

• Requires close visual acuity to perform an activity including the operating medical devices, analyzing

data, viewing computer terminals and extensive reading.

• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate imaging equipment, operate computer, and to handle supplies/medications.

• Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. • Repetitive motion required. • Ability to work around potentially hazardous materials and disease. • Function in narrow aisles or passageways. • Ability to sit, stand, lift, bend and push and pull items weighing 50 pounds or less.

Alcohol and Drug Testing: Employees may not arrive on duty under the influence of alcohol or drugs (prescription or otherwise).

Because this position is a safety-sensitive position, employees will be subject to random drug testing.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a position in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Working long hours between

breaks or meals may be required. Rotating shift as well as holiday work, work during inclement weather will be required. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational needs (rotate, shifts, standby, on call).

Travel

Infrequent travel is expected for this position. Incumbent will be required to work at the facility and be

responsible for own transportation.

 

Required Education

• Associates Degree in Radiology or Applied Science

Required Experience/Knowledge

• 3 (three) years’ experience in a Radiology service category

• Knowledge of ARRA/federal radiation guideline

Preferred Education and Experience

• Three (3) years management or supervisory experience in a Radiology service modality • Bachelor’s Degree in a related health care field

 

Required Licensees & Certifications

• Must possess a current license, registration or certification in a radiology services modality

• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire

• Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematical skills.

• Knowledge in PC applications including EMR, Word, Excel and Outlook.

• Proven knowledge of applicable regulations and state and federal laws.

• Strong knowledge base of HIPAA.
