Job Description

Responsibilities: Directs and supervises the operations of the City’s water systems; receives supervision and direction from the Public Works Director or designee; exercises supervision over subordinate water department personnel. Monitors the supply of potable water within the City’s reservoirs to ensure that domestic water demands and fire emergency service requirements are met. Plans, schedules, coordinates, monitors, records and controls imported water deliveries. Monitors the water distribution system. Oversees water equipment operations, maintenance, and provides written reports as needed. Assists in the development of capital improvement projects. Ensures safety rules and regulations are followed; directs excavation and utility related projects. Operates and controls the SCADA system. Collects water samples. Monitors voltage amps. Orders, maintains and supervises all purchases for the department. Collects samples of various chemical, physical and biological water quality analyses from reservoirs, wells and the distribution system. Responsible for maintaining, cleaning, disinfecting and performing repairs to wells, reservoirs and pumping facilities. Monitors, adjusts, calibrates and repairs various equipment within the water system. Oversees the flushing of dead-end mains; inspects and maintains fire hydrants and maintains operating schedules. Performs and supervises regular maintenance of water and makes or directs small repairs as needed. Responsible for performance and housekeeping at all pump stations, well sites and reservoirs. Provides written reports on daily activities in the Department, maintain work maintenance schedules and department needs. Supervises, manages and coordinates activities of outside contractors and vendors. Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
