Summary The purpose of this position is to provide clinical pediatric services to the Native American patients of Whiteriver Service Unit, Whiteriver, AZ. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021). Responsibilities Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of the pediatric dentistry program. Provide direct care in pediatric dentistry for all pediatric patients. Treatment of difficult management cases Diagnose and pediatric treatment of congenital abnormalities of the oral cavity. Treatment in dental clinic and/or Operating Room of both children and adults (disabled). Background Investigation Requirement: This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment. A background investigation is a standard process used by the Federal Government to verify an individual’s identity, employment history, education, and other relevant information to determine suitability for Federal service. Upon receipt of instructions, applicants must complete all required background investigation forms within five (5) calendar days of issuance. Timely completion is critical to avoid delays in processing or a determination of unsuitability. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Individual Occupational Requirements BASIC REQUIREMENT: Education Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements, applicants must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. Some dentists specialize in an area, such as, but not limited to, the following: Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Pediatric Dentistry Periodontics Prosthodontics Endodontics Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Dental Public Health For the above specialty areas, experience, education, board certification, and/or training must clearly establish the applicant’s status as a specialist. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least three (3) years of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Perform comprehensive dental treatment for pediatric patients under age 18 by conducting clinical and radiographic examinations, diagnosing pathological and irregular conditions, evaluating medical and dental histories, and using sound clinical judgment to develop individualized treatment plans. Establish effective relationships with pediatric patients, parents, and caregivers by communicating diagnoses, treatment options, and expected outcomes in a clear and compassionate manner. Collaborate with dental assistants, hygienists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate treatment, ensure continuity of care, and provide high-quality comprehensive dental services for pediatric patients.
