Job Description
Position Summary
Joseph City Schools seeks a student-centered Assistant Cross Country Coach to support the Head Coach in building a safe, inclusive, and competitive high school cross country program. The Assistant Coach helps student-athletes develop endurance, running technique, confidence, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a commitment to academic success.

Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with planning, organizing, and supervising daily practices, meets, travel, and team activities.
- Teach safe running technique, conditioning principles, pacing, warm-up and cool-down routines, and injury-prevention practices.
- Provide positive, age-appropriate instruction and encouragement to student-athletes of varying experience levels.
- Help monitor student-athlete well-being, attendance, academic eligibility, conduct, and progress.
- Support meet preparation, equipment and uniform management, course setup, and event-day responsibilities.
- Communicate professionally with student-athletes, families, school staff, officials, and the Activities Department.
- Model and promote sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, responsible conduct, and compliance with district and athletic-association requirements.
- Maintain required coaching, safety, and first-aid credentials, or obtain them as required.
- Follow district safety procedures and report injuries, concerns, or incidents promptly to the appropriate staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of or experience with cross country, distance running, or coaching student-athletes.
- Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach, Activities Department, students, families, and staff.
- Ability to meet district fingerprinting, screening, and coaching-certification requirements.
Working Conditions
Seasonal work with practices and competitions held before or after school and on some weekends. Regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions; ability to stand, walk, run, and lift or move equipment as needed.
Compensation
Compensation is provided in accordance with the current Joseph City Schools Extra Duty Pay Schedule.
