Description
1. Course Objective:
Description: The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Nurse Assisting prepares students for employment as a nurse assistant. The program combines classroom instruction with clinical laboratory practice and long-term care and/or acute care experiences. Students who complete the program are eligible to take a written and practical certification examination if desired to meet employment requirements to be a nurse assistant. Certification/licensing requirements are the exclusive responsibility of the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
The MCCCD Nurse Assisting program is approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
Competencies to be achieved:
The nurse assisting pathway is designed to prepare students to complete the Nurse Assistant certification/licensure through the Arizona State Board of Nursing to practice in a health care agency as a nurse assistant. Completion of the Nurse Assistant program of study provides job ready skills as a nurse assistant.
This program is designed to meet education requirements for licensure or certification in the State of Arizona. Granting licensure and certification is the sole responsibility of the state board or approval agency. This program is only offered and available to students located in the State of Arizona. The Maricopa County Community College District and colleges define student location within Administrative Regulation 2.2.3(7).

7. Additional information:
Admission Requirements: Digital application with uploaded Level One Fingerprint Card, government issued ID, BLS card, and transcripts showing the student meets the necessary educational requirements. Required health and safety documentation must be submitted and approved in American Databank.
Background check requirements licensing/credential: Must provide current Level One DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card, government issued ID, meet pass status on MCCD Background Check, and submit required health and safety documentation.
Industry Standard background check requirements/restrictions for working in the occupation: Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, signed form from licensed physician confirming student meets the mental and physical demands of the program. Must be able to read and do math at a college level, confirmed by prerequisites.
Other requirements needed:
- Students must meet and maintain health and safety requirements throughout the program, with up-to-date immunizations and testing as outlined in the MaricopaNursing handbook.
- Admission to a Maricopa County Community College District health program requires that students be in compliance with the MCCCD Supplemental Background Check Policy. Evidence of a current Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is required for program application.
- Negative urine drug screen.
Prerequisites: (A grade of C or better in RDG100, or RDG100LL, or higher RDG reading course, or eligibility for CRE101 as indicated by appropriate reading placement test score, or HESI-A2 exam English Composite score of 75% or higher) AND (a grade of C or better in MAT082, or eligibility for MAT090 or higher as indicated by appropriate math placement test score, or HESI-A2 exam Math score of 75% or higher).
