Synopsis: The Automotive Technology Associate of Applied Science degree provides students with a working knowledge of the skills required for employment as an automotive technician. It benefits both students seeking marketable skills and experienced automotive technicians looking to upgrade their proficiency and obtain industry certification. Students who successfully complete the program will be prepared to take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automobile and Light Truck Certification tests.
Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to do the following:
- Apply appropriate safety procedures for working with and around shop equipment.
- Select and use the proper hand tools and equipment for a variety of specific automotive repair tasks.
- Use diagnostic equipment to analyze engine controls and other subsystems on light-duty automobiles and trucks.
- Use diagnostic charts, schematics, and meters to analyze faults in light-duty automobiles and trucks.
- Demonstrate a general proficiency in areas of the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Certification Standard; such as Automobile and Light Truck Certification tests and/or Automobile Parts Specialist Certification test.
