Program Synopsis (Clinical Laboratory Assistant Certificate)


A. Course Objective:
Description: The Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) Certificate prepares competent entry-level clinical laboratory assistants who perform various laboratory procedures including phlebotomy, specimen processing, and quality control procedures under the supervision of physicians, laboratory scientists, or technologists in a clinical laboratory setting.
Competencies: The CLA Certificate program is designed to prepare students to be eligible for the Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) and the Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant (CMLA) certification exams through American Medical Technologists (AMT).

• Background check requirements for licensing and background restrictions for working in the occupation:
Background checks through www.castlebranch.com and myclinicalexchange.com are required. Certain felony convistions will prevent and individual from being hired and from being accepted into the program.


• Other requirements needed:
Students must earn:
- a grade of C or better in each required course:
- a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale;
- at least one-third of the certificate credits from CAC.
CPR certification highly recommended but not required to be accepted into the program.
