Program Synopsis 


Course Objective: 160 Hour Class A CDL with Endorsement 


Description: Yuma Truck Driving School, a branch Campus of HDS Truck Driving Institute, which began offering Truck Driving Programs in 1991, is a Family Owned and Operated Company.  Our mission is to offer students the opportunity to develop both the technical knowledge and the personal skills vital to employment in the ever-changing world of truck driving.  This course is designed to take entry-level drivers through the process of obtaining his/her Class A permit (if applicable) by taking the written tests at the Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) office and obtain his/her Class A CDL by passing a Third Party CDL Demonstration Test on Pre-Trip Inspection, Backing Skills and Road Skills.


Competencies to be achieved: The course is 4 weeks on a full-time basis and up to 8 weeks on a part-time basis. Students who do not possess their Commercial Learners Permit will spend 40 hours of training in the classroom to prepare them to pass the written tests to obtain his/her Class A Commercial Driver’s License permit (CLP) and endorsements such as Tanker, Doubles/Triples and Hazardous Materials, Hours of Service, Map Reading, Trip Planning and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. The remaining 88 hours of the course is hands-on instruction on Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection, Backing Skills and On-Road Driving in various traffic situations. For those students who possess their CLP upon enrollment, they will be awarded 40 Hours of Classroom Training Transfer Credit and spend all of their training time on hands-on instruction on Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection, Backing Skills and On-Road Driving in various traffic situations (120 Clock Hours).Students will be required to pass a Practical Skill Examination (Third Party CDL Demonstration Test) on Pre-Trip Inspection, Backing Skills and Road Skills. Job placement assistance is provided with over-the- road (OTR) national carriers/companies that hire our graduates directly upon completion of training.  (National carriers/companies screen by the following:  background, motor vehicle driving record, and work history.) Prerequisites:  Must be 18 years or older, and be able to pass a drug screen.  Arizona Motor Vehicle Division requires a Birth Certificate or Passport, Photo ID and Social Security Card. Must be 21 years to obtain Hazardous Materials Endorsement.
