CNA Advanced Placement Program
Program Synopsis / Description
Course Objective
The objective of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Advanced Placement Program is to assist experienced healthcare workers in obtaining Arizona Nursing Assistant certification through an accelerated training pathway that recognizes prior healthcare experience and competency.
This program allows qualified healthcare professionals to demonstrate their existing knowledge and clinical skills while completing the required competency validation, clinical training, and state examination necessary to obtain CNA certification.
Eligibility Requirements
Healthcare workers with at least one year of documented paid direct care experience may qualify for the CNA Advanced Placement program.
Examples of qualifying experience include:

Assisted Living Certified Caregivers
-
Patient Care Technicians
-
Medical Assistants
-
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)

Nursing students who have successfully completed at least one semester of a nursing program

Other healthcare professionals with verifiable direct patient care experience
Applicants must also pass an Advanced Placement Admissions Exam demonstrating proficiency in foundational healthcare knowledge and patient care concepts.
Program Description
The CNA Advanced Placement program allows qualified healthcare workers to obtain Certified Nursing Assistant certification through a reduced-hours training program.
This program is self-paced, allowing students to progress through coursework independently while demonstrating competency in required knowledge and skills.
Students must successfully complete the following components:

Four (4) knowledge module quizzes
-
Skills competency demonstrations
-
Sixteen (16) hours of supervised clinical training
-
Final written and skills examinations
Upon successful completion of all program requirements, students will be eligible to sit for the Arizona State Board of Nursing CNA examination.
Competencies to be Achieved
Upon successful completion of the program and passing the state examination, students will obtain the credential of:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
After passing the state examination, students may apply for their Arizona CNA number.
Students who wish to obtain Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) status may submit a separate application to the Arizona State Board of Nursing, which includes:

Submission of fingerprint clearance documentation

Completion of the LNA application

Payment of the applicable state fee
