Description
1. COURSE OBJECTIVE
Description: The Classic CDL Class A 160 Hours Course is designed to train entry-level drivers for the commercial trucking industry. The objective is for each student to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) upon successful completion. Training covers federal regulations, driving skills, parking skills, range maneuvers, pre-trip inspection, and on-road driving proficiency.
Competencies to be achieved: Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
- Interpret and apply U.S. DOT regulations to obtain a Class A CDL permit and license.
- Demonstrate competency in basic and advanced vehicle maneuvers including backing, alley docking, and parallel parking.
- Identify safety concerns and hazards during pre-trip vehicle inspections.
- Demonstrate driving proficiency on restricted areas, public streets, and highways.
- Complete and maintain logbooks, electronic logs, and DOT-required documentation.
- Apply safe driving practices including trip planning and defensive driving.
- Understand cargo liability, load securement, and safety regulations.
- Detect and report maintenance issues on combination vehicles.
Program duration: 4 weeks / 160 hours. Hybrid delivery: classroom theory may be completed online; behind-the-wheel training is in person.

7. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Admission Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old (students 18-20 limited to intrastate driving; interstate requires age 21+)
- Must hold a valid Arizona Class D (or higher) Driver's License for at least one year
- Must meet DOT physical requirements and pass a DOT 5-panel drug test before behind-the-wheel training
- Must be able to read and speak English sufficiently to understand highway signs and respond to official inquiries
- Must provide valid Driver's License, Social Security Card, and U.S. Birth Certificate, U.S. Passport, or Legal Resident Card
Background Check Requirements: No mandatory criminal background check required for CDL licensure; criminal history reviewed case-by-case. MVR required. DOT 5-panel drug test required prior to behind-the-wheel training. DOT physical required before obtaining CDL permit.
Industry Standard Restrictions: Certain convictions (e.g., drug manufacturing, human trafficking, smuggling) may limit employment options with some carriers but do not automatically disqualify a student from training or licensure.
Prerequisites: None. No prior experience or CDL permit required. Permit preparation is included.
