Program Synopsis: HVAC Career Accelerator



A. Course Objective:


Description: This comprehensive online HVAC training program equips students with the knowledge and skills to become proficient entry-level HVAC technicians. The curriculum covers HVAC fundamentals, electrical systems, refrigeration principles, troubleshooting, and industry-standard certifications, including EPA Section 608 (Types I, II, and III), OSHA 10, and NATE Ready-to-Work. Delivered entirely online, the program offers flexibility and accessibility, with an interactive VR component for hands-on learning at the student’s pace and environment. It emphasizes preparing technicians for Arizona’s unique climate challenges, particularly in areas like Phoenix.



Competencies to be achieved:


● HVAC/R Fundamentals: Understand principles of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, including components and operation.



● Electrical Systems: Diagnose and repair electrical components and circuits in HVAC/R systems, such as motors, contactors, thermostats, and wiring.



● Refrigeration Principles: Apply knowledge of refrigerants, pressure-temperature relationships, and refrigeration cycles to troubleshoot and maintain systems.



● Troubleshooting: Develop systematic approaches to diagnose and resolve HVAC/R equipment issues using virtual simulations and tools like multimeters, pressure gauges, and leak detectors.



● Safety Practices: Adhere to OSHA and industry-specific safety standards for personal and workplace safety.



● Certification: Obtain EPA Section 608 universal certification, OSHA 10, and NATE Ready-to-Work certifications, demonstrating competence in refrigerant handling, safety, and industry standards.



● Customer Service: Develop effective communication and interpersonal skills for professional client interactions.



● Hands-On Skills: Gain practical skills using HVAC/R tools and equipment through virtual labs and simulations.



● Professionalism: Understand ethical conduct, professional appearance, and adherence to industry standards.



● Online Learning Skills: Become proficient in using online learning platforms, participating in virtual discussions, and managing time for coursework.



B. Total Cost of Program (include all costs to student including testing, licensure): $1,999. Short-term promotions or discounts for a limited number of students in a cohort may be in effect from time to time. The current promotional price will be honored for all WIOA participants.

The program is online and self-paced. Estimated to complete in 4 - 8 weeks depending on the pacing. Students must complete the program within 12 months or loose access. 



Other requirements needed:



● Success coach provides motivational calls, but students must log in independently.



● Valid driver’s license (required for most HVAC technician positions, as travel to job sites is common).



● Computer skills and self-discipline for online learning.

OSHA 10 certification is widely accepted in the construction industry nationwide. This program found success in Texas as a WIOA-focused initiative, partnering with employers to meet the needs of what they are looking to see in entry level workers in the skilled trades.
Overall online trade programs KPIs: Completion rate 85%. Job placement rate 91% (The job placement rate includes paid apprenticeships sourced in partnership with local workforce development boards and we are adding in a job placement support person available to students 365 days post graduation in Arizona.)
