Course Objective:
Description: This online pharmacy technician training program will prepare aspiring pharmacy technicians in assisting pharmacists with packing and distributing medication. You will gain access to a comprehensive work experience guide and receive personalized support from our work experience team.
This course offers hands-on learning through an online lab module that provides practical experience in processing orders, identifying correct medication dosing, and sourcing. As a part of this course, you may be eligible to apply for a 100+ hour work Clinical Experience to gain valuable practical experience and further enhance your professional skills.
DISCLAIMER: This course is designed to give you an introduction to the profession of pharmacy technician. It will not supply enough information to sit for the national exam. If your goal is to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), then upon completion of this introductory course, enrollment in the advanced course is recommended.
This course prepares for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE), offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), which is the credential pharmacists trust. The PTCB set out to advance medication safety by credentialing technicians who are qualified to support pharmacists and patient care teams. Employers prefer, and many require, their pharmacy technicians to be PTCB CPhTs.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to sit for the PTCE exam and prepared to earn your highly respected CPhT credential.
Competencies to be achieved:
* A comprehensive understanding of the pharmacy technician role, including essential professional and communication skills necessary for success in a pharmacy setting
* Pharmacy regulations and standards from regulatory agencies and professional associations to ensure patient safety, high-quality care, and proper medication handling
* Practical knowledge of medication processing and handling procedures, including the ability to identify medication orders and read prescription forms accurately
* Medication storage guidelines and quality assurance procedures in the pharmacy department

State Requirements:
You must ensure that the Pharmacy Technician Course meets your state's requirements. For more information, visit your state's Board of Pharmacy site or view a map directly from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) website. You can also call the state board and ask for the current technician regulations. This course does not meet state requirements for students intending to work in North Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. Please note that PTCB credentials are designed for use exclusively in the US. Therefore, PTCB exams are generally only administered in the US. Active members of the US military and their spouses are an exception and are eligible to test anywhere in the world.
Clinical Experience Requirements:
As a student in our Pharmacy Technician course, you'll have the opportunity to participate in our exclusive Clinical Experience, which provides a valuable advantage in today's competitive job market. Through our nationwide agreement with several pharmacies, you can gain hands-on experience and assist pharmacists with prescriptions, patient inquiries, and administrative tasks.
To qualify for the Clinical Experience, you will need to meet certain requirements, including passing a drug screening test, obtaining professional liability insurance, completing a background check and employment verification, meeting current immunization standards, and conforming with state mandates such as registration, fingerprinting, licensing, etc. Additional forms may be necessary for participation in the Clinical Experience with certain pharmacies. Please note that while we strive to find available openings, a Clinical Experience placement is not guaranteed for the Pharmacy Technician course and may take up to 12 weeks to secure. As a candidate, you should start applying for the PTBC Trainee License 2 weeks before you take the final exam in the course.

WITHIN THE 10 DAY GRACE PERIOD
Once a student is enrolled in an Advanced Career Training Program, they have 10 calendar days from the Start Date listed for their enrollment to advise ed2go of any need to drop their program for a refund. During this time frame, students can submit their drop/refund request to their student advisor. Partners may also request a drop on a student's behalf by submitting an ACT Program Enrollment Change Form which is located on the left of the Home tab in your Career Training Program Online Administration Center under Resources.
Please note:
* The 10-day refund policy may not apply to all programs. Some programs are non-refundable once the student has received a start date for the program.
* Students may be responsible for material costs, if materials are not returned to ed2go, or received back in less than new condition.
AFTER THE 10 DAY GRACE PERIOD
Drop/refund requests received after the 10-day grace period may be approved on an exception basis only. If a drop/refund is approved, additional fees, such as material fees and instructor fees, may apply and will need to be collected prior to processing.
