Program Synopsis: Clinical Dental Assistant (Vouchers Included) 

Program Location: Online

Course Objective:
Description: This comprehensive program covers essential skills, from anatomy and physiology to patient care, radiology, and dental office management using Dentrix Practice Management software. With no prior experience required, you’ll learn from real-world insights and gain hands-on knowledge in various specialties. Upon completion, you can pursue clinical experience opportunities and prepare for certification exams, including the NELDA or CDA, ensuring you’re ready to excel in your dental assistant career. 

Clinical Dental Assistant Experience:  
After completing the Clinical Dental Assistant course, students can either seek employment directly or apply for the optional clinical experience program offered by ed2go. To apply, students must be 80% through the course and meet the necessary requirements. Clinical placements are not guaranteed, but students who meet qualifications and submit a completed application will be considered for placement, based on site availability. Please note that this course is not endorsed by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).

Voucher Information: 
Upon course completion, students receive vouchers for the AMP, ICE, and RHS portions of the Dental Assisting National Board exams. These exams fulfill key requirements for NELDA and CDA certifications. For those with 3,500 clinical hours, the General Chairside Assisting exam is required separately. Vouchers cover prepaid access to the exams once eligibility is met.

Disclaimer: Students must complete the course and ensure their account balances are current to qualify for clinical placement. Clinical experiences are not guaranteed, but affiliated partnerships may assist in placement. Students should research the application process ahead of time and take full responsibility for meeting clinical requirements. 

Competencies to be achieved: 
* Describe the roles for each member of the dental team and twelve dental specialties 
* Define the legal and ethical practice of dental assisting, including HIPAA 
* Explain deciduous and permanent dentition along with their functions in dental anatomy and pathology 
* Describe the chain of infection, transmission routes, and infection control for the dental practice, along with OSHA regulations 
* Summarize the role of the dental assistant in pharmacology, nutrition, and interaction with a variety of patients in normal daily activities and emergency situations 
* Describe the use, care, and preparation of dental instruments for patient care 
* Outline the necessary components of a patient record prior to dental charting 
* Use charting techniques to identify dental restorations and disease to create a treatment plan to prevent future disease progression 
* Set up equipment for anesthesia and sedation. 
* Describe patient clinical methods and techniques to prevent dental disease 
* Identify the process of exposing high-quality radiographs in both traditional and digital formats 
* Describe dental materials, their uses in dental treatment, and skills needed to use them efficiently 
* Define the dental assistant's role in pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, and cosmetic dentistry 
* Explain the communication and business needs to maintain a dental business office 
* State transferable hard and soft skills in order to complete a résumé for a dental assistant position 

Pre-Requisites: There are no prerequisites for taking this course. However, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent to sit for national certification exams.

* This course can be taken on a PC, Chromebook, or Mac. 
* The optional Dentrix software requires a PC and cannot be used on a Chromebook or Mac. 

Software Requirements: 
* PC: Windows 10 or later. 
* Mac: macOS 10.10 or later. 
* Browser: The latest version of Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are preferred. Microsoft Edge and Safari are also compatible. 
* Microsoft Word 
* Adobe Acrobat Reader 
* Software must be installed and fully operational before the course begins.

* Email capabilities and access to a personal email account.

Refund Policy (provide a summary if Refund policy is not listed on school website):
WITHIN THE 10 DAY GRACE PERIOD  
Once a student is enrolled in an Advanced Career Training Program, they have 10 calendar days from the Start Date listed for their enrollment to advise ed2go of any need to drop their program for a refund. During this time frame, students can submit their drop/refund request to their student advisor.  Partners may also request a drop on a student's behalf by submitting an ACT Program Enrollment Change Form which is located on the left of the Home tab in your Career Training Program Online Administration Center under Resources.

Please note:  
* The 10-day refund policy may not apply to all programs. Some programs are non-refundable once the student has received a start date for the program.   
* Students may be responsible for material costs, if materials are not returned to ed2go, or received back in less than new condition. 
 
AFTER THE 10 DAY GRACE PERIOD  
Drop/refund requests received after the 10-day grace period may be approved on an exception basis only. If a drop/refund is approved, additional fees, such as material fees and instructor fees, may apply and will need to be collected prior to processing.
