Description
This program provides entry level drivers training to obtaining his/her Class A CDL License
Student will receive hands-on instruction on Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection, Backing Skills, and will have On-Road Driving skills training.
Other requirements needed:
• Be at least 18 years old (Students 18-20 are limited to driving in-state only)
• Have a Class D (minimum) Driver’s License for at least one year
• Have consent forms on file with the Program Office for any agency sponsoring the student and/or companies where the student has completed applications
• Must be able to pass a drug screen
• Be able to provide the following documents:

*Social Security Card,
*U.S. Birth Certificate or U.S. Passport or Legal Resident Card
This program meets the requirements of Entry Level Driving Training (ELDT) standards.
Once students complete the program with successful scores, they will receive a Certificate of Completion.
Completion of this program does not guarantee licensure or employment. Testing and licensing decisions are made by the state.
A. Course Objective
To obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) upon program completion. The program includes permit preparation, Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT), regulations, driving skills, parking skills, and range skills.
Program Overview
The Classic CDL Class A 160-Hour Course is designed to train entry-level drivers for the trucking industry.
This comprehensive program provides:
● Permit Preparation: Training to obtain a Class A CDL permit and license.
● Hands-On Training: Includes logbooks, map reading, trip planning, safety regulations, and other essential skills.
● Practical Instruction: Focus on pre-trip vehicle inspection, backing skills, and on-road driving skills under various road and traffic conditions.
The program consists of 160 hours of training:
● Full-time: Completed over 4 weeks.
● Part-time: Completed over 8 weeks.
Key Training Areas
1. Pre-Trip Inspection: Identifying potential safety concerns and citing hazards.
2. Backing and Maneuvering Skills: Employing shifting and backing techniques.
3. Road Training: Handling various traffic situations on restricted areas, public streets, and highways.
4. Combination Vehicles: Proper coupling and uncoupling techniques.
5. Safety Regulations: Understanding and applying Department of Transportation and Interstate Commission rules.
6. Preventive Maintenance: Detecting and addressing maintenance issues on tractor-trailer units.
7. Cargo Management: Describing cargo liability and security regulations.
8. Night Driving Operations: Performing day and night driving maneuvers.
Training topics listed above are not exhaustive and additional topics will be covered as part of the required curriculum.
Competencies to Be Achieved
Upon successful completion of the program, students should be able to:
● Regulations and Licensing: Interpret and apply U.S. Department of Transportation regulations to obtain a CDL Class A permit and license.
● Vehicle Operations: Demonstrate competencies in basic maneuvers, including backing skills and driving proficiency on roads.
● Pre-Trip Inspection: Identify safety concerns and potential hazards.
● Tractor-Trailer Operations: Operate tractor-trailers effectively, including range and close-quarter maneuvering.
● Preventive Maintenance: Detect and identify maintenance issues.
● Safety Regulations: Interpret and follow all safety regulations related to tractor-trailer units.
● Cargo Management: Understand cargo liability and security protocols. Certification
Students who successfully complete the program with passing scores will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate verifies that the program meets the requirements of Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) standards and prepares students for obtaining their Class A CDL.

G. Additional information: Background Check Requirements for Licensing and Background Restrictions for Working in the Occupation:
● Arizona Motor Vehicle Division requires a Birth Certificate or Passport, Photo ID, and Social Security Card to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License Permit.
● Criminal history review: Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) and criminal background check will be reviewed, though no specific licensing restrictions are listed.
Other Requirements for Enrollment:
1. Age:
○ Must be at least 18 years old (Students aged 18–20 are limited to driving in-state only).

2. Driver's License:

3. Department of Transportation Physical Requirements:

4. English Proficiency:

■ Respond to official inquiries.
■ Make entries on reports and records.
5. Consent and Documentation:
○ Sign a release form for a copy of the student’s Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) or provide a copy to the Program Office.
○ Complete consent forms for any sponsoring agency and/or companies where the student has applied.
6. Document Submission:
○ You need at least two documents listed – one must have a clear photo of you, or three documents listed with no photo.
○ One document must be listed under the Primary column.
○ All documents must be originals or certified copies in English, issued by the certifying agency.
○ Additional documents may be required for a name change (e.g., marriage certificate, divorce decree). You must first change your name with the Social Security Administration.
○ CDL documentation requirements are subject to change without notice.
