Description

1. Course Objective:


Description: The Phlebotomy Technician program covers cardiovascular anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, safety and infection control, venipuncture equipment and procedures, dermal puncture procedures, venipuncture complications, and special collections. Resume development is also included. 


Competencies to be achieved: Understand the anatomy of the heart, blood, lymphatic system, and cardiovascular system. Apply knowledge in phlebotomy practice and quality assessment. Perform venipuncture procedures, capillary blood specimen collection, and spirometry. Demonstrate proper specimen handling, transportation, and processing. Understand arterial, intravenous, and special collection procedures. Develop a foundational understanding of urinalysis, body fluids, and other specimen collections. Utilize proper bedside manner and prepare patients for venipuncture collection. Follow general guidelines for collecting urine specimens and describe the purpose and process of urinalysis. Obtain and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, height, and weight.
