The Medical Administrative Assistant with Billing and Coding program prepares students for dual roles in healthcare administration and medical records management. Students will gain practical skills in managing front-office operations such as scheduling, documentation, and communication, while also learning the specialized knowledge required for coding, billing, and reimbursement processes. Communicate effectively with staff and patients using professional verbal and nonverbal techniques. Understand the impact of OSHA, HIPAA, and healthcare compliance on administrative duties. Organize medical files, transcribe dictation, manage appointment scheduling systems, and maintain accurate patient records. Demonstrate proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and understand their role in modern healthcare delivery. Understand medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and the structure of healthcare organizations. Describe the responsibilities of various allied health professionals and specialties within a medical office. Apply knowledge of healthcare law, ethics, and professional behavior in administrative roles. Prepare healthcare claims, manage patient billing cycles, and understand medical bookkeeping practices. Gain foundational knowledge in medical coding systems, including ICD-9, ICD-10-CM, and CPT. Apply outpatient coding and reporting guidelines, including Evaluation and Management (E/M) services.
