Program Title: Aircraft Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics Certificate

Located at Tucson International Airport in a dedicated hangar, the Aviation Technology Center is part of the Center of Excellence in Applied Technology.
Course Objective: You’ll expand and deepen the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills gained in our Aircraft General Mechanics certificate courses. In compliance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations outlined in 14 CFR Part 147, these courses must be taken in a prescribed sequence to ensure comprehensive learning and proper progression. These advanced courses cover critical systems, structures and maintenance procedures, preparing you for the complexity and responsibility of aviation maintenance. Upon successful completion of this certificate program, you’ll be eligible to apply for FAA certification as an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic — a credential that opens doors to a wide range of careers in the aviation industry.

Competencies:
Upon successful completion of the program, the learner will be able to:
- Know common safety practices used when working on and around aircraft and related support equipment.
- Identify and use applicable maintenance and publications and documents.
- Know and understand federal aviation regulations
- Inspect, assemble and repair aircraft sheetmetal structures.
- Inspect, assemble and repair aircraft composite structures.
- Inspect, service, install, and repair aircraft support systems.
- Inspect, service, install, and troubleshoot aircraft instruments and com/nav equipment.
- Repair, inspect, assemble, troubleshoot, and service reciprocating powerplants.
- Repair, inspect, assemble, troubleshoot, and service turbine powerplants.
- Install, repair, troubleshoot, and service powerplant support systems.

List of books: Each course has a required textbook indicated in the course syllabus. The predominant textbooks are the Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic Handbooks. For information contact: 520-206-5914. -
Provide a list of all supplies required for the program (even if costs are included in tuition):
• Safety glasses (clear) with peripheral visors; prescription glasses must have side shields.
• Two forms of hearing protection: ear plugs & over-the-ear muffs; ear buds utilized for playing music are not acceptable
• Safety Shoes
• Writing implements: ballpoint pen and an extra-fine point Sharpie
• Calculator with basic functions

Limited Enrollment:
Competitive Admissions are programs that evaluate applicants based on specific criteria and where only the most qualified students are admitted to the program. These programs often require preparatory coursework.
Limited Admissions programs are those that have strict limits on the number of students that may be enrolled in their programs based on space constraints, instructional capacity, program accreditation, clinical placement limitations, or other restrictive factors. These programs often require preparatory coursework and operate with a waiting list rather than a competitive application process.
Conditional Enrollment programs require actions such as attending an information session, completing background checks, obtaining immunizations, successfully completing developmental courses, or other checklist items before students can enroll in the major courses.
Other requirements: Designed for students who have completed program prerequisites and have met college preparatory requirements in reading. Please contact the Aviation Department for more information and the start of the next cohort.
